Expert Water Testing for Safer Environments
Alpha Scientific provides UKAS accredited water testing services for organisations that cannot compromise on safety or compliance.
Our microbiological and chemical testing is carried out in fully accredited laboratories, ensuring every result is accurate, traceable, and delivered on time.
From Legionella and Pseudomonas aeruginosa to E. coli, Total Coliforms, and endotoxins, we deliver results you can trust. Our testing helps healthcare providers, leisure facilities, housing associations, and industrial operators maintain safe water systems and meet regulatory standards.
We don’t just provide numbers, we offer clear, actionable results that give you the confidence to take the right steps for your individual establishment.
Supporting compliance and risk management
Regular water testing is critical for safeguarding health, preventing costly downtime, and meeting legal obligations. Whether it’s to comply with ACOP L8 Legionella guidance, pass audits, or maintain safe facilities for public use, accurate testing is the first line of defence against waterborne disease.
Alpha Scientific delivers UKAS accredited water testing services that provide evidence for regulators, assurance for stakeholders, and peace of mind for your teams.
Our specialist water testing services
Our water testing services cover a full range of microbiological and chemical parameters, ensuring your water systems remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose. Every test is performed in purpose-built laboratories to the highest standards, giving you precise, reliable data to maintain compliance, protect health, and make informed decisions.
Microbiological Testing
-
BSRIA Micro
Tests for microbial activity in closed water systems, including Pseudomonas species, sulphate-reducing bacteria (SRB), and nitrite-reducing bacteria (NRB). Helps identify biofilm, corrosion risk, and loss of system efficiency.
-
Legionella
Identifies the presence of Legionella bacteria, including the most pathogenic Legionella pneumophila, which causes Legionnaires’ disease. Required under ACOP L8, this testing is essential for aerosol-generating outlets such as showers, taps, and cooling towers.
-
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Tested routinely in healthcare settings due to its potential to cause serious infections, particularly in vulnerable patients. Monitoring is standard practice in many clinical environments to manage contamination risks.
-
E. Coli
Indicates faecal contamination of water supplies. Even low levels can cause illness, and in healthcare settings, this can be life-threatening to immunocompromised individuals.
-
Total Coliforms
Indicates faecal contamination of water supplies. Even low levels can cause illness, and in healthcare settings, this can be life-threatening to immunocompromised individuals.
-
Clostridium Perfringens
Gastrointestinal pathogen tested for in drinking water supplies and is especially important in environments serving vulnerable groups.
-
Enterococci Faecalis
Gastrointestinal bacteria found in water. Testing is used to assess contamination risk in potable supplies.
-
Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM’s)
Recently recognised as a significant healthcare risk, particularly for patients with lung conditions. Early detection allows easier removal before colonisation occurs.
-
Cryptosporidium & Giardia
A bacterial indicator of water treatment breakdown. Its presence suggests that disinfection processes may have failed, posing a potential risk to vulnerable groups. Commonly monitored in treated water supplies to ensure system integrity.
-
Swimming Pool Micro
Detects harmful microorganisms in pool water to prevent public health incidents.
Chemical Testing
-
BSRIA Chemistry
Measures corrosion indicators, inhibitor levels, and inorganic parameters in closed systems to protect pipework, calorifiers, and heat exchangers.
-
Potable Water Chemistry
Assesses the chemical composition of drinking water to ensure safety and compliance.
-
Borehole Chemistry
Analyses water from private boreholes for safety, quality, and compliance with regulations.
-
Well Suite
Comprehensive package for well water quality assessment.
-
Check Monitoring
Periodic testing to verify ongoing water quality compliance.
-
Audit Monitoring
In-depth compliance testing, often for regulatory inspections
-
New Mains Connection Chemistry
Ensures newly connected or repaired mains water supplies meet required quality standards.
-
Pool Chemistry
Ensures newly connected or repaired mains water supplies meet required quality standards.
-
Environmental Chemistry
Testing for industrial and environmental water samples, such as effluent discharge, to meet permit and environmental regulations.
Specialist Healthcare Testing
-
Endotoxins
Detects bacterial toxins in water used for medical purposes. High levels can cause septic shock, organ failure, or death.
-
Renal Analysis (RATS tables 1–3)
Measures chemical and microbiological parameters in dialysis water to ensure patient safety and correct nutrient delivery.
-
Renal Total Viable Counts (TVC’s)
Used to monitor bacterial growth in renal water systems; important for maintaining compliance in dialysis facilities.
Testing made simple
